What are your favourite games at these specific play times?Let us know!
We’ve become more aware of play time now that we have kids. We have friends over on Sunday afternoon and they bring their kids too so we have to be aware of how long we have before the little ones start getting tired and worn out from each other
I think it's a bit hard to find a 15-minute game that plays with more than two players, just because people can take time to think over their moves. But anyway…15 minutes: Seasons of Rice30 minutes: Abandon All Artichokes (maybe Skyjo)1 hour: Gravelly1.5 hours: Power Grid (on a good day)2+ hours: Root
These are my picks (with rare exceptions, I typically don't like games that exceed 60 mins):
15 mins = Tides of Time
30 mins = Templari
45 mins = Terra Nova (Colovini 2006) and Gorinto
60 mins = Medici
90 mins = Tigris & Euphrates
120 mins = N/A (count me out 🙂
Please do a strategy deep dive for Castle of Burgundy
Great to see that shots of the game setup are included, really enhances the content and I appreciate the effort this takes.
My favorite recent longer game is Dune: Imperium. So many layers and no wrong choices and the dual-use cards. Love it.
Sweet list! I own San Juan physically and digitally, is Race for the Galaxy worth owning as well?
Caesar seems fun. I’m like you, theme seems blah, but if it is a good, quick play, I’m in. My 1.5 hour gaming opportunities aren’t as abundant these days. Good info, guys.
Great lists. Less than 15 minutes I would pick Orchard, Grove or Food Chain Island
15- Cubirds or For Sale
30- 7 Wonders
60- Acquire
90- Parks
120- Wingspan
love the multiple Keyflower mentions. My favorite game of all time.
YEEEEES finally some love for Keyflower !! Best game EVER
Have you played blitzkrieg? How is it compared to Caesar?
Keyflower was my first heavy game purchase 7-8 years ago because I like worker placement and auctions. At that time it felt dry and too heavy. Do you think it deserves another chance?
So great to see Mandala getting some love! ❤
For <15min, it's some small card games for me, like Coloretto.
30 min: King of Tokyo
1 hour: very tough, because many hit this mark for me. But I'll go with Modern Art!
1.5 hours: Orleans
2+ hours: Root on the shorter end, then Nemesis, and on the reeeaaally long end there's Twilight Imperium.
Game length is something I am hyper aware of when adding games to my collection! I try to add games that have a variety of "game lengths" so that I have options when I sit down to play, I can pick a couple different games depending on time.
Spirit Island is my favorite longer game. Camel up is probably my favorite shorter game, though Cascadia is catching up quickly, and Dice Throne is being delivered this month and I'm confident it will be a hit with my group of friends (we love dice chuckers). Marvel Champions is my favorite middle length game.
edit:spacing
I said to my group this weekend, that I loved Everdell, but it plays way too long for what it delivers at 4 players (our 4). We have 1 very entrenched Analysis Paralysis player, plus one not so bad AP player, plus a neuro diverse player (the opposite of the AP players!) and then me in our regular group. We laugh at the "time to play" suggestions as we never, ever fit the box. As the group leader/game purchaser this is my most challenging conundrum. But I love the hobby regardless and I love playing with my interesting group 💓
Really enjoyed the guidance around game time – it will be very helpful, and some fab suggestions from you both. Thank you
The mind, 7 wonders, Cascadia, dune imperium, camel up (I'm joking about the last one only sort of. One time my gaming group took 4 hours to play a single game of camel up because we were 8, drinking and talking, and the game was new, and they were more interested in doing the fist couple of things)
Not gonna lie, I typically see your video picture before I look at the video title. I'll often see Keyflower in the background and get a bit excited thinking that'll be the topic of the video 😅 I don't own it, and really wish I could play it more.
Anyway.. <15 min: Ohanami. (This is a cheat but…) <30 min: Hallertau Solo I can do in 30 minutes, definitly not at other player counts though. <1hr: Viticulture w/ Tuscany. <1.5hr: Underwater Cities (2 player only, maybe more with experienced players). <2hr: Terra Mystica with 4 or 5 players.
I'm sure these all would change pretty frequently, but this is what I'm feeling today haha.
Y’all are killing it with the videos lately! Thank you both and keep it up!:)
Takk!
I bought Mandala based on Dylann’s previous discussions and it does not disappoint! We LOVE it! Took it on vacation recently and it made the perfect airport/hotel game.
Great picks..need to check some of these out as well.
My list:
< 15 min: Caesar! or Casacadia (solo on app) if Caesar! is cheating as Dylann mentioned.
~30 min: 7 Wonders Duel / Agricola: All Creatures Big and Small (can’t pick)
~1 hr: Carcassonne
~1.5 hr Rajas of the Ganges
2+ hr: Caverna
Great idea for a list. Always enjoy seeing Mandala get some love.
I went to my FLGS and hugged A Feast for Odin for 3 minutes before they tossed me out. I think I can do better.
Great video, thx.
/s no I didn’t
15: Kingdomino
30: Sagrada
60: Wingspan
90: Viticulture
I still haven’t played many games at 2 hrs or more lol love this idea definitely going to copy and make an inspired post later 🙂 will tag ya
Where are my feast for Odin fans?!?!?! Even agricola????? What happened? Lol
But seriously, love what you do guys. Happy to see you both ol again and doing what you do best. 🥳
some excellent picks here, Sprawlopolis, RftG and Glass Road would be on my list as well 😉
<15 – Magic: The Gathering
<30 – Menara
<60 – Wildlands
<90 – Cthulhu Wars
>90 – Star Wars: Rebellion
Ya merchants and marauders is way underrated such a great game. Its me and my GF favorite. It just outright fun. I highly recommend adding the expansion!
If I hadn’t just started down the Marvel Champions rabbit hole I’d definitely be up for Race For The Galaxy and Keyflower.
Will ask Santa for them. 🎅🏼
Needed a 3+ or 4+ hours category
How complex is Viticulture? I see a lot of people mention this game in the comments and elsewhere.
