Jeffie, I'ma hold you to that promise to play video games with Richie while I cook boeuf bourguignon… he said he's down for Pac Man. He used to actually play Super Mario Bros. with his mom before she died (she discovered it at the ripe ole age of 73 lol). My fave as a kid, tho, was always Crash Bandicoot: Team Racer, I'd play it with my sister all the time (she was the real video gamer, growing up…I could never beat her at Super Mario Bros, so I just gave up).
Rich was also talking about that Centipede game, so I'm glad you included it here. lol Still waiting on Myst: the board game
Stardew Valley forever tho (with Rollercoaster Tycoon a close second). Probably will stream Haunted Chocolatier when it comes out, too. lol Anyway, Rich just likes to hate on Stardew because he's jealous of my spicy HOT chemistry with Harvey.
My favorite video games from younger days in the arcade’s of the late 70’s and 80’s was tie between Bezerk and Galaga. Also played a lot of missile command back then. Any of those ring a bell Jeff?
Favorite video game of all time? Final Fantasy VI.
There is NO game, no person, no media that has shaped me into who I am more than that game. The music is Nobuo Uematsu's BEST. Kefka and Ultros (🐙🐙🐙) are HILARIOUS. Story is the template to all Final Fantasy game after. Every character has character and is not some afterthought (except Umaro, but I still love you Umaro)…. And more. #VideoGamingPerfection
One of my favs has to be Sea of Stars 😊
Sonic Roll would be a good video game board game, though a lot of luck is involved in dice rolling 😅
Favorite game is a tough one…
I typically put each genre since there are so many, but if I have to pick just one, that would be Fire Emblem: Blazing Blade (Fire Emblem for GBA in the West)
Star Wars: The Knights of the Old Republic
Anyone else hearing that cricket?
Platform gamers would probably appreciate a lot of dexterity games, they sort of invoke the same kind of feelings.
Speedball 2
Oathsworn is my favorite boardgame of all time. If you get a good crew, who shows up regularly, it's just an amazing experience that lasts months. Worth every penny. My favorite video game of all time has to the the arkham Batman games from rockstar. Such a great combination of puzzles, combat, and building out your batman to do what you want to do.
My favourite video game of all time used to be Monster Hunter World (hence my profile pic) but it changed to Baldur’s Gate 3 recently. I do love Chrono Trigger too and it has a special place in my heart as it was the very first RPG game I’ve ever played on SNES and got me introduced to other SquareRPGs.
I loved both Earthworm Jim & Boogerman! Did you ever play Clayfighter 63 1/3? It’s a fighting game that had Boogerman and Earthworm Jim as playable characters.
Mass Effect is possibly my fav video game of all time. I think I played through each one a few times, something unheard of for me. Usually I play a game for a few hours and then move on, unless it's an RPG (like Baldurs Gate, also amazing!). Latest game has been Helldivers 2. I am not typically an FPS player, but this game is intense and soooooooooooo fun! I can't wait for the ME board game…they better do it justice. I may even try to sell my unplayed, all in copy of ISS…hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
You guys and your Too Many Bones, do you own stock in Chip Theory or something, kidding. I think Galaga was inspired by Space Invaders? and came out in arcades, I’m not 100% sure tho. Be well
I've been playing Coral Island so much lately! It is a hoot!
Among IP board games I really enjoy Resident Evil 3 Board Game. It's a fun campaign style adventure where you're to get out of the city and each scenario feels haunting cause the zombies hear your noises, the resources are scarce and it's very much in the spirit of classic RE style games (but now you can play it together with your friends).
Platformer adjacent could be like any of the Clanks? Maybe Sub Terra? You don’t get the spatial jumping and timing and stuff but still reminded me of them
Of recent video games, Stardew Valley, Terraria, and Hades are definitely some of my favourites, but Klonoa 2: Lunatea’s Veil on the ps2 is probably my all time favourite. I love that game so much and was so hyped when I saw they remade it.
As for app-based games, I’m a video gamer that falls into the “avoid if possible” camp with those, mostly because part of the reason I adore board games is there are no screens involved. I spend far too much time looking at a screen, I don’t want my screen-free hobby to have screens. I’m positive that they’re great games and that I’d probably enjoy them, but they’re just not what I gravitate towards.
Yesssss Goldeneye!! I’m not a huge video gamer, but I remember sinking dozens of hours into that game when I was younger haha! Super fun list, guys 🙂
I know the crowdfounding campaign turned out to be a disaster and the game won't make it to retail. I managed to get a copy of 6: Siege from an UK reseller and together with the time aspect and the skills of the different operators all matches had a great tension and they really did a great job bringing the fps shooter to the board. Slay the Spire also is fire. Due to explaining the rules I played Act 1 like five times now and everybody loved it. Looking forward to play more of that.
Jeff check out Deep Rock Galatic Survivor . Soo good.
I just purchased a copy of Cosmic Frog at Gen Con. I can't wait to play it! It might be the strangest game I've encountered, but it's so intriguing!
I love games of all stripes, so picking favourites is hard. Story wise Disco Elysium is the reigning champion but otherwise choosing faves is tough. That said I’m really enjoying Dredge at the moment (and I think Dredge could make a great board game) and The Long Dark.
My favourite game of all time has to be Minecraft, I always go back to it somehow. Followed by Stardew Valley, League of Legends and World of Warcraft. 🤟🏻
Foster the Cricket 🦗
Favourite video game would have to be Diablo, love it! I need to play Sanctum as I hear it feels a lot like Diablo.
My favorite old game is Toejam & Earl- I loved being able to roam around the world and it was just too silly. My favorite game now is terraria- and they are coming out with a board game version!!
Favorite video game of all time is tough, but FF 7 was a magic one for me.
Favorite board game for video game people is either Earthborne Rangers, with its open world execution, or Roll Player Adventures for the great branching story.
Love the channel!
me too! Chrono Trigger my favorite rpg game!!
Im a Nintendo head. I came to playing games as an adult. My favorite games are Mario Galaxy 2 and then 1 and of course Mario Odyssey. Im not a Zelda fan but I love absolutely Breath of the Wild and then A Link Between Two Worlds and Tears for of the Kingdom. i do love video games, but I tend to stick with more modern games.
Can confirm GoldenEye was epic, and changed video games forever. There would not be a Halo, Counterstrike, or any vs shooters without it.
My favorite game of all time might be Red Dead Redemption. I don't think I've ever had a genuine emotional response from a game apart from that one. Great game.
The Original Legend of Zelda for NES. Stayed up through the night trying to get through the different dungeons. Love this game. 9:54
Here's board games that I feel video gamers would love:
– Adrenaline
– Earth Reborn
– Eclipse
– Sleeping Gods
– Space Hulk
I don’t play a lot of video games. My husband is always trying to find one I will like. Loved Rock Band, Over cooked, Marble Mania, Mario Kart and played both Catan and Carcassonne on Xbox before I played them in boardgame form more than 10 years ago. We also play all the Jack Box games which I feel are more like boardgames anyway.
My husband is the video gamer. He says his favorite video game genre is RPG but has a hard time picking a favorite.
Great video thanks.
adrenaline is soo good. I play it two player with a bot. They also brought out solo rules. Its a very underrated FPS game
Gamer since ever, which began in the 80-s. We did have Centipede on the old Atari homecomputer. It was a cartridge you could insert on the top.
Favourite genres: RPG, adventure, survival horror, but play almost everything except for sport games.
Favourite game of all times: Fallout 3 and close after this Skyrim. 😎 Haven't played the Fallout boardgame though.
There are so many video games I poured hours into, but a few off the top of my head are “8 Eyes” (NES), “Raptor, Call of the Shadows” (PC/DOS), “Super Contra” (NES), “Altered Beast” (Sega Genesis), Jazz Jackrabbit (PC/DOS), “Imperium Galactica” (PC/Windows)… so many. Lots of memories.
Since starting to collect more board games, part of my internal justification is that in 20 years my dining room table will likely still be compatible with the collection.
I like to play SuperHot the Card Game, an FPS where everything freezes when you plan and hell breaks loose again as soon as you act. Enemies keep entering your room to take you out, and you have to defend yourself by using things you find in there. To make the game stop you need to successfully perform a series of randomly selected achievements while at the same time continue to defend and survive. Fired enemy bullets hang in the air Matrix-style. Every card has two alternative effects, depending on whether it is turned against you or against an enemy. You deal with the incoming flow of cards and turn it around into your outgoing flow. I mostly play it solo, which is the main mode, but you can also play 2 or 3, cooperatively or competitively.
The two of you have a great dynamic! You come off as pretty different, but seem to accept eachother's quirks in a happily constructive way. It's great. Congratulations! Thanks!
Chrono Trigger…Fantastic!
I'm old enough to remember when Pong was cutting edge, so Jeff, any time you want to talk old games, I'm your guy. I think my favorite game ever was GTA Vice City. I love all the GTA games, and of course they've gotten bigger, better graphically, and more in depth, but it's tough to beat Vice City's 80's vibe for someone who was a teenager in the 80's.
"Chrono Trigger!" no hesitation there 🤣 totally agree by the way (am I the only one that when replaying this game felt Robo's theme sounds a little like "Never gonna give you up" from Rick Astley 🤣?)
BG3 is easily my favorite video game, but my bf loves final fantasy and kotar and I’m falling in love with them now that I’m giving them a shot.
2 games I thought of. For Tetris lovers, the game second chance is different enough but same relaxing polyomino vibes. And then kess has several video game ips, but sonic roll is pretty spot on.
Any video that mentions Battletoads and Chrono Trigger gets a thumbs-up from me. Chrono was the only RPG that I ever beat and then immediately wanted to start again.
I was always more of a platformer game lover. When Super Mario Bros. 3 and Mega Man 3 both came out in 1990 I was in my glory.
Missed Resident Evil the board game and Fallout
Top two for me by far are Elder Scrolls Betrayal of the Second Era and Mass Effect. Any thoughts on The Last of Us: Escape the Dark, coming q4?
I will put it out into the universe, the world needs and deserves a good Zelda themed game, preferably Ocarina of Time or Majora’s Mask generation.
Banjo-Kazooie on N64, many many many hours played with my sister. I always made her get the Jinjo in the ocean at Treasure's Cove because the shark scared me too much 😂
Lol I remember Booger Man. What a game! I was thinking "oh it is like Earthworm Jim" but then you mentioned that too. Also, not like it, but I thought of Commander Keen, that was a good one.
My favorite game is probably a toss up between Final Fantasy 7 and Chrono Trigger. Both so good
Jeff. I don’t know if you have it posted anywhere but if you are ever looking for Retro games! I got some doubles I’m always looking for doing trades for!
Going for the complete N64 and Nintendo Power collection.
Also love collecting board games, I can’t afford anything anymore… haha
