“Ruin has come to our family.”
In this adaptation of Red Hook’s acclaimed Darkest Dungeon video game, you strive to cleanse a manor and its surroundings of all manner of evil: hordes of the undead, foul beasts and eldritch abominations… And, finally, either at death’s door or at your wit’s end, you will have to uproot evil itself from the darkest dungeon.
Darkest Dungeon is a fully cooperative dungeon crawl game in which players take on the role of adventurers. Although brave and determined, adventurers are only human! They are prone to the madness and pain the twisted dwellers of the dungeons will inflict upon them. Death can occur, but is not the worst fate: heroes can be driven mad and beyond help!
The game is played in campaigns of 11 missions. To reach the Darkest Dungeon itself, players will undertake 3 missions per threat level and vanquish the boss. Then, they will be strong enough and face the horrors of the Darkest Dungeon! They may emerge victorious… if they dispatch the source of evil that plagues the land.
For each hero, select 3 skills out of 7 before heading into your mission (and level the heroes up to gain access to more skills). In each room, pick the most suitable stance to best resolve the conflict! Then, on each turn, a player chooses two of the available actions of moving, interacting with the environment, changing their stance or using a skill (if eligible for their current stance). Triumph over encounters, resist rampant madness and emerge victorious before throwing yourself into another battle. Between missions, spend your time in the hamlet, visiting various buildings to find relief from the physical and mental trauma you’ve just endured. Restore the hamlet to its former glory and it will reward you and help you to fulfill the ultimate goal.

I was tempted by this but the storage area is too much. This is exactly the type of game that needs those plastic full color standees.
Really glad to have the All in of this massive game :-). Thanks for showing to us !!
Cool intro. Your production quality is definitely standing out from most of the other creators. Great job 👍I know a guy who can paint those for you 😉
WOW!! That intro Video is Awesome! Well done sir!
Can you do high def videos of all of the miniatures? The first part of the video was amazing and I’d like to see more.
Also, will you still be getting a full copy of the game upon the final release?
Solo playthrough please. Also, DD2 is great.
I’m so sad to see I missed out on this KS, this looks amazing.
Bummed that they changed color to grey on the minis (yes, I read the reasoning and dont care). Thats one reason it stood out to me. Anyway, I have the Allin coming, and hope its good
Can't wait to get my hands on this, and HEL: the Last Saga. I wait for darkest dungeon 2 on switch. Ps: all of the content.
Let's go for a playthrough series dude
Really excited to see a how-to-play and gameplay. Can't wait for my copy to arrive!
Why don’t people just pay a few bucks to play the digital version of this game? 🤔 roguelite board game would take a lot of resetting… and BG version takes up so much space.
I cannot wait to get this one. My #1 most anticipated game of 2022 (hopefully). Great video Jesse! Please do a gameplay series and how to play video.
hah, i just broke out the video game again last night, coincidentally. very hyped for this board game. 🙂
Definitely would like a basic how to or rules intro vid as well as gameplays. Whether you roll the how to into a gameplay, whatever works for you. Maybe a short, focused rules vid followed by a much longer gameplay?
"Paladin…. Pickaxe… guy with the plague doctor mask…. Crab-like king or queen… giant Cthulhu style eyeball"…
For a guy who begins the video talking all about how much of a total fan he is of "The Darkest Dungeon series"… he doesn't seem to know what anything is called
So glad I backed this! Those miniatures look incredible!
I must admit that I've watched your DD gameplay video more than 10 times this year.
I've never played actual DD videogame, but I like the aesthetics of DD universe.
I still didn't back the boardgame itself because I am not quite sure if gameplay is ok.
So what I would like to see – more gameplay videos or personal opinion – what type of board game player can enjoy this.
miniatures look great, shame the game looks overbloated and tries way too hard to simulate the video game instead of creating a board game that invokes the feeling of playing the video game.
The number 1 thing I want to know about this game is how much will one lose. I don’t love games that I lose more than I win.
I just need me some gameplay, maybe one shot dungeon runs, and change the characters? something like that. I would just like to see more characters in these videos. I am still waiting for the newest gameplay from mythic games themselves (Come on Sam, we are waiting 🙁 )
I have to say, one of the reasons I considered backing this (in the end I did not) was because I really liked the look of the red minis that they had. As someone who doesn't paint my minis it was a cool change from the normal mini featured games on Kickstarter. A bit disappointing that they are grey in the end. 🙁
How to play plz.
Since you asked…. I need a decent "how to play" so that I can avoid the rulebook once i get my copy.
This looks very cool. I love the video game. I have not heard much on the board game version yet. I am curious to see how well this translates to the table top: If the game is still as engrossing at a slower pace and with friends. Definitely hope you are able to get some gameplay and thoughts on that up on the channel. QUACK!
Sooooo epic! I can't wait to play it (and see if I like the gameplay as much as I like the production).
New game session will be nice!!!
Sooo, I know this is a LOT to ask for, but since the PM is said to close this month, the most useful thing would be a playthrough and a quick review/ first look impressions.
I am under the impression that they did not streamline the prototype at all, which seemed like token galore, too fiddly and way too much overhead etc., or did any meaningful changes and improvements to the system whatsoever, like reducing the amount of dice rolling for provisions, traps, curios etc., which is why I did not jump in yet despite the excellent price-for-content-ratio. But that could also come down to the Mythic-style of updates, which are weekly but mostly void of meaningful information.
A critical view at this copy could confirm or deny my impressions before the pledge manager closes.
One thing i would love to see is an in depth look into the characters you can play as and what the board abilities you may see are
Also knowing that there are standees is so cool! It adds more to the dioramas that much more customizeable
Very cool
Craving for more gameplay with different heroes from Mythic game playthrough
I absolutely love Darkest Dungeon. I think mechanics are top notch in the video game. I played the sequel recently and I am sad to say that I am quite disappointed. New ideas and social mechanics seem great on paper but they are so chaotic and unpredictable in the actual game that it was very unpleasant and hopeless experience. It felt like misery simulation rather than tactical roguelike like the first was.
Further more I feel something similar for this board game. I was sooo excited when they announced it, because I would love to see cardboard Darkest Dungeon. And the mechanics are perfect for tabletop game, right. But instead holding on to those 2D positional tactical crawler they made some 3D hybrid and added so many convoluted rules on top. It made me sad because what they made is not anything like DD I cherish and love. And I am sure faithful conversion is completely doable.
I think Darkest Dungeon two is really good. It's certainly a departure from the first game but is none the worse for it. As for content, this is my most anticipated Kickstarter ever, so any content would be great. How to play, gameplay, campaign… anything to keep me going until I have my own copy!
Long time follower. First time poster. If you are not painting them, would you get the figurines shaded by Mythic??
I would like to see a review content for sure! I'm waiting this game a lot! And i Hope it'll worths
I feel like this video could be better with a camera off to the side for you to show off the minis better
My previous comment got deleted for some reason: 330 usd for the worldwide shipping is just absurd (gamefound prices), this game ends up being more expensive than KDM.
I need my games to be narrated by Wayne June.
Made in China no thanks. But nice review….
I'd love to see another long, full playthrough like the one Sam did. Preferentially showing some of the other characters.
Can we all just stop to admire how amazing that intro was?! Amazing work!
Only got into this game much later after the Kickstarter happened. Would love to be able to get a copy of this
Gameplay and review please.
Mythic games look epic but simply lack the depth. They are outputting too much. They'd benefit from slowing down. Less is more folks.
I would love to see a big 4-player gameplay. The party/co-op dynamic is one of the things that really sold me on the game. One of your "most missed rules" videos would also be welcome! Looking forward to more content!
When is this game coming out officially? Can't wait to get this
I was disappointed about the most recent Q&A from Mythic. Right after Leo mentioned that Mythic is going to be producing sleeves for all of their games, when asked about whether sleeved cards for DD, a game for which sleeve packs were sold as add-ons, would fit in the box, the answer was basically "nah, maybe you guys can figure something out". Not good behavior, guys.
The question which remains unanswered is: Is the actual game any good? Surely there have to be many simplifications. Nobody wants to manage all those numbers and status effects manually, which normally the computer is handling. I wonder how they solved the actual game part!
I want to see you paint them 😁
Is it just me…. Or does this guys naming of heros (plague masked dude) and enemies (big crab boss) lead me to believe he has never played the game.
I dont expect the presenter to be an expert. It just hurts a bit.
Really disappointed about the change of the red minis. How coincidental that you hit them with a red light wash at the beginning. Have they explained the change?
