TIPS FOR GAME MAKING WITH DIFFERENT AGES OF KIDS:
For Preschool: Make it simple! The big lesson kids can learn from games at this age is to take turns. Make the rules simple and short. Too complicated and you’ll lose attention and concentration. Winning and losing can be difficult at this age, so consider creating a collaborative game.
Early Elementary: What skills are you working on with your child right now? Spelling? Math? Choose a theme they love and work an educational goal into the structure of the game. If you’re working on reading, add some words.
Elementary: Add some problem solving in! See if you can incorporate some puzzles or mazes into the game. Marble runs and mazes can be just as fun to make as to play with later for this age! Give materials and let them loose!
Multiple Ages Together: Siblings? Keep the rules simple and with no reading required, but make the theme of the game as imaginative as possible to capture the attention of your older kids.
