YouTuber Tom Scott has flown drones through lightning, he’s taken on the first human-powered theme park, he’s even visited Penistone. But he’s never taken on a British Museum curator in the world’s oldest playable board game… UNTIL NOW!

For International Tabletop Day 2017, Tom Scott was challenged by British Museum Curator Irving Finkel to a round of the oldest playable board game in the world – The Royal Game of Ur – a game whose rules were rediscovered and deciphered by Irving himself.

  1. Poorly inaccurate video. Most ancient Sumerians never even played these games they preferred settlers of Catan.

  2. Irving Finkel was such a delight! Great vid, very enjoyable! 😊

  3. He is awesome man,and funny if you listen closely he's funny

  4. hello_there,, can you just return evry thing that don't belong to you people to their real owners

  5. Irving Finkel, goodness me old boy don't grind him to dust.

  6. This is basically a rip off from the ancient Indian game that is known as Ludo today. Ludo first originated in India before the Kuru dynasty (2000 BC).

  7. We in south of India ( Tamil Nadu) play a very similar game. Thayam/Dhayam game

  8. it's already an old video, but apparently you mentioned backgammon. But it's much more same to Ludo. you have a d4 instead of a d6 and just have two players instead of 4 possible.

  9. can ludo be considered the remake of this game?

  10. Wtf with this Guy? XDDDDDDD
I wouldnt be surprised to find him running Up and down the British museum naked.
    And the captions… XD
    10/10

  11. Nice video, although I don't think Irving understands the strategy of the game all that well. A lot of it comes down to getting your pieces onto rosettes and then back off of them. Getting hit on a piece near the start isn't that important, so leaving that first rosette block and some of your other home spaces empty is not great.

  12. Came back here after seeing Irving in Cunk on Earth. What a legend.

  13. Is there a place where we can order the game online?

  14. Guys? Isn’t this just “Trouble” or “Sorry”?

  15. Error. No es el juego mas antiguo del mundo. Es solamente el juego mas antiguo de la historia … hay juegos de 50.000 en Australia… parece que el museo Britanico no esta bien informado para javer el guion de este video … !!!

  16. Yes please make the game … how will I know when where how ?..to purchase xxx .. loved the video .. xxx

  17. I guess it is better than backgammon since it’s a bit faster

  18. It's interesting to see that Sorry is the oldest board game.

  19. I wish my history teacher was as fun as Irving. Fantastic.

  20. Great game. Wouldn't really be difficult to make one at home. Just need the die

  21. Crear, where can I get a replica of the tablet of rules?

  22. I just realised I have no beard, I've got at best, a few whisps of hair.

  23. "Sometimes it brings out violence… Sometimes it brings out savagery…" I mean the same could have been said for Scrabble in my household growing up…

  24. This was amazing, loved every second of Irving! The game is very compelling, would love to learn more about the later versions of the rules.

  25. Looks loke a mix of 'Man, Don't Get Angry' and 'Backgammon' 👍

  26. I read the title as “THE ROYAL AF GAME OF UR”

  27. Bellissimo gioco! Spero che sia stata fatta sufficiente “pubblicità elettronica” per trovarlo!
Il gioco “Non ti arrabbiare” è la versione moderna di questo gioco….e le repliche, si sa, hanno sempre qualcosa in meno. 😂

  28. This is my first time stumbling across this particular video but I am very familiar with Dr. Finkel and his infectious enthusiasm. Gotta love it!

  29. Old man, your intro cracked me up

    " i hafta win. I work ..ect."

You verbally say what an American thinks but wont say.

  30. Our old Ancestor at Gaming lol maybe a gamble

  31. Well , looked all over for you today, at the British Museum. Wanted to challenge you to a Royal Game of Ur. I have been practicing and am sure I could give you a good game maybe even beaten you. Alas I wandered all over the Assyrian Exhibits , but never saw you. Your humiliating defeat will have to wait.

  32. I would be sure to purchase this game if it once again became available. Excellent game, great fun!

  33. I feel like the creators of Parcheesi were familiar with this game
