In this video I share my 10 favorite board games with a fantasy theme. Fantasy is one of the most popular genres within books, movies, video games and even tabletop games. From Dungeons and Dragons to Lord of the Rings to generic and unique fantasy worlds there are so many tropes, characters and ideas to tap into when creating a board game. This is possibly one of my favorite thematic genres and in this video I share my top 10 within this category.

  1. I would say that this is a very bad list of games, some of these are not even board games, but LCG, and games based in the FFG fantasy world are not exactly generic. There are BOARD GAMES that fit the generic/traditional list, for instance, Massive Darkness, Lord of the Ring: Journeys in middle earth, Heroquest/s and so on.

  2. Isn't Runebound great? I just wish the expansion were a little more available.

  3. My favorite would have to be War of the Ring.

  4. I bought lord of the rings so long ago and haven’t played in years…I’ll pull it out of deep closet

  5. Loved Runebound 3rd defiantly created a story that i didnt quite feel in 2nd.. but the pog combat was annoying not as satisfying as a dice roll , Loved the Descent 2nd app, i'm a big FFG fanboy too

  6. Massive Darkness
    Drakon
    Clank!
    Dungeon Alliance
    Cave Troll
    Betrayal at Baldur's Gate
    Zombicide Black Plague/Green Horde
    Archmage
    Altar Quest unplayed
    Dwellings of Eldervale unplayed

  7. Man I love Battlelore 2e.
Love it so much I'll play it by myself controlling both sides and have tried and enjoyed the solo variants on bgg 🙂

  8. I have everything for your #1 and #2 which also appear in my Top 10 too.

I just love that world. Some people criticise it for being 'generic' but if people take the time to read the lore I think they'll find that it's not really 'generic' but 'familiar'. Familiar enough to understand and enjoy whilst giving the players the freedom to create their own idea of how that world is 🙂

  9. Thanks for the awesome review. You pushed me over the edge in getting Thunderstone Quest…

  10. Thnx for the list!
And I mean this in the best possible way but within the first 2 minutes you have raised your glasses about 10 times…
It became a thing of distraction..😉
