Thank you for watching! And thank you for all your comments, I love making videos for you all!
If you’re new to Actualol, my name is Jon Purkis. My two passions are writing comedy and playing board games, so I decided to combine the two in this YouTube channel.
I make all my videos on my own, in my flat in London, UK, with the help of a diverse selection of wigs.

Last weekend my wife and I played Pandemic: the Cure (which is similar to Pandemic, but you roll dice to find a cure). We kept losing miserably, and had to play five times before we won. It really was the best dickhead we'd ever met.
If cojones isn't Spanish for oxygen tanks, you're gonna die lol
This video could use chapters
I love your characters. Hilarious. Also, I love the games you pick. Have purchased quite a few.
As a person whose spent quite a bit of time in Duluth, the Duluth jokes got me to subscribe 😂
Colt Express looks fun.
Spring Meadow looks a lot like Patchwork.
So good I can't ignore you. I haven't had such pleasure since 90 '.
Your new subscriber 🧡
Stockpile! Nice
"Wales is miles away, and there will never be a reason to go there!" 😀 Best line! (also true)
I’m so glad I found your channel. Your video’s are so fun to watch!
Totally agree with the top two. Would also add King of Tokyo
The funniest board games videos I've ever seen !! LOOOOL thank you, I love it
Genuinely laughing out loud at this one man! 🤣 great work and awesome reviews some i already own thanks to your other vids. Cheers dude!!
6:50 Sounded like Dexter’s Lab!😂
I just found your channel and wanted to see if I knew all these games, and I found out that I didn't, but you did name some of my favourites, Pandemic, Ticket to Ride and Magic Maze are games I play a lot with friends.
12:40 Magic maze is terrible if you want to keep friends.
In cooperative games you need good communication and diplomacy. Maybe a bit of negotiation and deception.
In Magic maze, the worst communicator bangs the giant red pawn angrily on the table and we have to do what he says fast. It's… corporate culture at its worst.
In coop games, the best strategy is to make use of everyone's strengths.
In Magic maze, the best strategy is to blindly follow what the leader bangs. It's a one person game with 3 people in your way.
PASS!
Thanks. I needed – few entry level games to break my wife into more gaming. I just ordered Ticket to Ride, Pandemic and Magic Maze. Thanks.
1:07 that whole scene was hilarious 😂
I got one of the first run of Survive about 40 years ago 🙂
This list did not age well. 10 down to 2 are great suggestions though.
One of the funniest YouTube videos I've ever seen. "I'm not a rat." "No, but it does rhyme with that." (Of course, in some countries to make that work, it'd have to be, "I'm not a rot"…)
I watched the video wants to learn about the games. Then I re-watched it to better understand the characters. This is equal parts review and comedy.
Baby shark and a pandemic. *rocks in corner from PTSD
Your content is hilarious mate lol!
I'm from Duluth and I loved this video! 😂
the waffle house has found its new host
So I grew up with Hasboro. The classic Monopoly and candyland, clue, guess who and risk stuff. Eventually my family got into canasta. I played Heroes Quest and dnd with my friends growing up and Magic the gathering. It wasn't until around the beginning of the pandemic I started to gk back to finally exploring board games as a hobby but as my own adult finding my own interests I started with Clans of Caledonia first then jumped into Mage Knight when the ultimate edition had a reprint. I tend to do my own thing in life and that works for me. I like both games a lot and branched out since.
I got to play catan once as a kid a long time ago, I don't remember it much. My parents will play ticket to ride ocassionally but I find it boring honestly. I need complex strategy engine builders. Or something.
Tho I kept up with complex video games my whole life. And now I get the ocassional boardgame on steam during sales. And epic had gloomhaven free for a while. I haven't played it yet. On my list. But I enjoy wingspan on steam. And I want to get root.
The game that will make you love board games is definitely Carcassonne.
This must be the best channel on Youtube for board games!
Everyone knows that Nottingham airport only serves general aviation and doesn't do commercial flights. Nottingham is instead serviced by east midlands airport. Please fix your sheriff of Nottingham skit as this glaring inaccuracy has completely ruined this video for me.
What the hell was that muuuu, you got me laughing out loud
Play "Baby Shark" at my funeral had to be one of the best ideas ever!
I might catch flack for this but, if you get ticket to ride you are going to want the bigger card pack that is sold separately. The game is grate but the small train cards are a pain in my opinion. 🤣🤣
This was the best video yet!..now I need friends to start the hobby😅
Great list I would love to see the updated one and I’ll look on your channel to see if you did. Instead a pandemic, I would highly recommend horrified! One it’s a co-op against universal monster movies that most people know the characters. Two it’s not about the pandemic.
04:21 "icarush your way up the mountain" lmao amazing
Love love loved this video!
I’ve never seen that version of Pandemic before, with the characters as pawns and the Petri dishes … Where do I get it?! :O
I lost it with the "cojones" joke 😂😂😂😂
YAY IM THE BEST COW BOY MOOO MOOO MOOOOOOOOOOO…milk
I'm gonna be honest, the constant cutaway gags are more annoying than funny.
You might want to check out Indian Summer instead of Spring Meadow… feels like a cleaner design to me and it still uses the tiles with holes. 😉
(Also, Magic Maze I would use to convince people to despise board games… 😀 7W Architects, Kingdomino, Takenoko, Quacks of Quedlinburg or Wandering Towers would by my picks. 🙂 )
I would add Catan, 7 Wonders, Codenames and Carcassonne to this list.
Resistance can be a friendship ender: play with caution. I love the game but I've seen it destroy peoples' trust.
Castle Panic is a great cooperative introductory game.
Love your channel
In my opinion neuroshima hex is one of the best starter games if you are looking for a strategic death match type game
“I shoot Timmy” 😅
That orange game behind you was driving me to distraction trying to remember what it was: Secret Hitler! And since watching this the first time, I've gotten Sheriff and Magic Maze. First was a hit, second I've only tested solo and with Dad so far to prepare the teach.
Looking for shorts to showcase those games for my birthday event on Facebook, clips of your video here are the best short, useful, non-boring explanations of those games. You might consider making those clips into standalone videos 😊
If you liked the video, please share it with your friends that you're trying to get into board games 🙂
